Absolutely deadly on ground squirrels
The .17 HMR 17 grain V Max is absolutely deadly on ground squirrels. When sighted in at 100 yards my Marlin throws them consistently in the size of a quarter and sometimes even a nickel. With a good shooters rest, all squirrels out to 125 yards are as good as gone, and if I aim just over the top of them, out to 150 yards. The impact observed in a 20 power scope is R rated for violence, as it destroys what once was a farmers worst enemy.
